Travel Safety
Spring Break is exciting for students—but for parents, it can also bring understandable concerns. Preparation is one of the most effective ways to reduce risk and help students travel with confidence. As a safety strategist, I always remind families that a few simple conversations and a basic plan can make all the difference.
Below is a Spring Break Travel Preparation Checklist for Parents to help students stay safer while enjoying their trip.

Travel Details
☐ Review the full itinerary (flights, hotel, activities)
☐ Confirm hotel name, address, and phone number
☐ Share travel plans with a trusted family member
☐ Identify transportation plans to/from the airport and hotel
Important Documents
☐ Passport or government-issued ID
☐ Health insurance
☐ Medjet Membership or Global Rescue membership
☐ Emergency contact list
Tip: Store digital copies of documents on the student’s phone and in secure cloud storage.
Personal Safety Awareness
☐ Use the buddy system
☐ Avoid sharing real-time locations on social media
☐ Be cautious, don’t accept drinks from strangers. Use a NightCap drink spiking prevention tool
☐ Trust instincts and leave uncomfortable situations
Emergency Communication Plan
☐ Sign up for the STEP program
☐ Share emergency phone numbers
☐ Set a daily or periodic check-in plan
☐ Consider location sharing for the trip
☐ Invisawear GPS safety device
Health & Medical Preparation
☐Pack prescription medications (in original containers). Check that all medications are legal
☐Bring basic medications (pain relief, allergy, stomach remedies)
☐ Pack a small first-aid kit
☐ Identify nearby hospitals or urgent care centers
Financial Safety
☐ Bring multiple payment methods (credit/debit card + some cash)
☐ Notify the bank of travel plans
☐ Use a StashBandz to protect money and your passport
Technology & Digital Safety
☐ Phone fully charged before outings. Use a data blocker to prevent hacking/juicejacking
☐ Emergency contacts saved in phone and written down
Transportation Safety
☐ Use reputable transportation services
☐ Confirm rideshare driver and license plate
☐ Share ride details with a friend
☐ Avoid traveling alone late at night

☐ Have an open conversation about safety, decision-making, and looking out for friends.
